Commercial Truck Comparison: Ram vs. Ford

2019 Ram 1500 Limited and Rebel

RAM vs. Ford: Which Commercial Truck Should You Choose?

When it's time to get serious about your profession, you'll want to choose a commercial truck.  Whether you run a construction or landscaping business or you need a vehicle for utility work or to accommodate first responders, a commercial truck can help you transport people and equipment wherever you need to travel.

Many drivers compare RAM commercial trucks to those produced by Ford due to the performance and capability that each brand offers.  Here at Anthony D'Ambrosio Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM, we believe that nothing compares to the class-exclusive features offered with the new RAM truck fleet.  Let's compare Ford commercial trucks to RAM trucks to help you decide which version to choose for your business.

Comparison of Active and Passive Safety Features

When it comes to the safety of your cargo and your vehicle, nothing compares to a RAM Chassis Cab.  The RAM commercial trucks offer you several class-exclusive features to improve your driving experience and increase your safety on the road.  The RAM vehicles make it easy for you to back up your trailer, boasting all-new mirror-mounted rear spotlights and convex trailer-tow mirrors that increase your visibility.

A class-exclusive trailer reverse-guidance view adds confidence to your journeys, helping you to see around your upfits or trailers as you navigate in Reverse.  Finally, you also have the opportunity to gauge your proximity to obstacles near your truck with the help of a class-exclusive ParkSense Park Assist feature.

The 2019 Ford Chassis Cab also offers several perks to truck drivers, including its high-strength aluminum alloy cab, heavy-duty front axle, and Advancetrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control™) feature.  The Ford commercial truck also offers Trailer Sway Control to help you keep your trailer balanced with your truck's performance.

However, only the RAM Chassis Cabs offer 100 passive and active safety features as standard or optional for your truck.  In fact, in the chassis cab segment, you'll only have access to Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) with trailer brakes, Forward Collision Warning, and adaptive cruise control on the RAM Chassis Cab model range.

Consider the Powertrains Available from Ford & RAM Trucks

When you choose the RAM Chassis Cab, you can experience an efficient and powerful driving experience.  Whether you need to tow a trailer or load up the back with gear, you'll stay ready for your toughest hauls in a commercial RAM truck.  The new RAM 3500, 4500, and 5500 Chassis Cab models come equipped with one of two ambitious powertrains, starting with a 6.4L HEMI® V-8 that's enhanced by Fuel Saver Technology cylinder deactivation to help you reduce fuel consumption.

With this efficient powertrain, you'll get to experience up to 410 hp and 420 lb.-ft. of torque.  Moving up, you have the option of a 6.4L HEMI® V-8 that comes mated to an Aisin AS66RC electronically-controlled six-speed transmission that offers you an available Power Take-Off (PTO) capability.  This ambitious powertrain generates 370 hp and up to 429 lb.-ft. of torque.  Finally, all versions of the RAM Chassis Cab truck give you access to a Deceleration Fuel Shut-Off function that further decreases your fuel consumption so that you can focus on your tasks rather than locating the next fuel stop.

The Ford Chassis Cab trucks offer three different powertrains for drivers to explore.  You can equip the F-450 or F-550 XL or XLT models with the 6.8L Triton® 3-valve gas V-10 engine.  This powertrain gets you 288 hp and up to 424 lb.-ft. of torque.

You also have the option of a 6.2L 2-valve gas V-8 engine that delivers 385 hp and 430 lb.-ft. of torque for the F-350 XL, XLT, or Lariat models.  Moving up, the 6.7L Power Stroke® V8 turbo diesel engine can generate 330 hp and up to 750 lb.-ft. of torque on available models.  As you can see, the more refined and lightweight RAM commercial trucks offer an edge over the Ford commercial fleet in performance and efficiency.

Commercial Truck Measurements

With the Ford Chassis Cab trucks, you can choose from the F-350, F-450, or F-550 to suit your needs.  The Ford F-350 Chassis Cab offers you a maximum Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of 32,000 pounds, and the F-450 Chassis Cab features 34,500 pounds.  However, the best that you'll get from the Ford commercial lineup is 40,000 pounds of GCWR from the Ford F-550 Chassis Cab.

The new RAM Chassis Cab, on the other hand, delivers capability when you need it the most.  In fact, the RAM Chassis Cab offers the highest GCWR at 43,000 pounds and can get you a class-leading 35,220 pounds of towing and up to 12,510 pounds of payload.
